The great migration

“Our citizenship is in the sky.” Philippians 3:20

The life cycle of wild Pacific salmon is extraordinary. They live their entire adult lives in the ocean, rapidly gaining their mature weight, and then after two to six years, they feel called to return to their birthplace, to give life to the next generation. They can travel over 3,000 kilometers to ascend a river for 200 kilometers to the small streams that gave birth to them with incredible precision. Experts believe that they guide themselves on the Earth's magnetic field, while using their sense of smell to "smell" the specific scent of the bottom of the stream where they began their life. Doesn't this sound like that "spirit of eternity" that God has placed in each of His children and which makes them feel that their true home is not here on earth, but in the divine presence ? Scientists say that the salmon is anadromous, a barbaric word from Greek which means : the race to the top. The migration of this fish is always upwards. All Pacific salmon make only one trip, from the depths of the ocean to the high river of their birth that becomes their final destination. Likewise our kingdom is not in the depths of the ocean but up there, this Kingdom to which the Lord once ascended. As the salmon appreciate the riches of the ocean offered to them, we can be grateful for all the blessings that God has made available to us here on earth, but remember that our greatest joy and satisfaction is found only there- high, close to God. The apostle Paul wrote : “As for us, our citizenship is in heaven, from where we also wait as Savior on the Lord Jesus Christ. He will transform our body of misery into conformity with his glorious body by the power which he has to submit everything to his authority” (Philippians 3: 20-21). What we expect for soon !
