The hand in his hand
Do not be afraid, for I am with you; do not cast anxious glances, for I am your God ; I make you strong, I come to your aid, I support you with my victorious right hand. Isaiah 41.10
A new year ! 365 days of which we know almost nothing. How will we live them ?
As a little boy, I didn't like walking through the countryside, towards the unknown, or even going up the village street in the dark night : I jumped at each barking of dogs who stood guard behind the fences... But a only thing was enough to reassure me: to walk beside my father, my hand in his...
Only one thing is enough for us for the days to come : to put our hand in the hand of God, the Heavenly Father. God reassures his people by promising them his presence : "I am with you...".
The same promise is for all who wait on him. Jesus Christ said : “Whoever comes to me I will not cast out." (John 6.37) Alain Bombard, this doctor who crossed the Atlantic, alone in an inflatable boat in 1952, was able to say : “At 20 years old, Jesus was nothing (for me). Then, at the age of twenty-eight, I left alone on the sea. Jesus Christ never left me. He was the only support that never deceives...” (in Pour vous, qui est Jésus-Christ ?, Éditions du Cerf, 1970.)
So ask God to lead you in this year 2023. Put your hand in his : he will take care of you.
