The hands

The hands !

They pierced my hands and my feets. Psalm 22.17

During the Covid-19 epidemic, the hands were the main vector of transmission of the virus. It was therefore necessary to wash them often so as not to contaminate others and to protect oneself.

The hands are the instruments of our actions. Through them we greet others, we work, we write... Hands caress, but they also strike. They heal, but they kill. The hands of the surgeon save lives and those of the murderer take them !

Only one pair of hands has always done good : they are those of Jesus. The hands of Jesus multiplied the bread to feed the crowds. They landed on multiple patients to cure them. They rose up in earnest prayers to God. But the good hands of Jesus were taken by other hands. They took them to hammer nails into them and fix them on a cross. The pierced hands of Jesus testify to the dirty work of which human hands are capable.

Jesus' hands did not remain fixed on the cross. Jesus is risen. Despite our faults, Jesus continues to reach out to us. He offers us all eternal life ! Seize by faith, without seeing it, his pierced hand. It is a hand of peace, friendship and reconciliation that he offers you. The hand of God is never too short to save !

Proposed reading : Book of the prophet Isaiah, chapter 59, verses 1 to 3.

59.1 No, the hand of the Eternal is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear.

59.2 But it is your crimes that separate you from your God ; it is your sins that hide his face from you and prevent him from listening to you.

59.3 For your hands are stained with blood, and your fingers with sins ; your lips speak lies, your tongue speaks iniquity.
