The height of love !
John 13: 1 - ... Jesus, knowing that his hour had come... put the height of his love for them.
That evening, Jesus put the finishing touches to his love for his disciples. How did He do it? He humbled himself, he the Master, until he took the role of a slave and He washed their feet.
This gesture has a very strong prophetic symbolism. In the East, the feet suffered greatly from travel and they must have given off a very unpleasant odor. Following the example of the Master, the height of God's love pushes us to "wash" those who have suffered on the road to life, even if the smell they give off is sometimes very unpleasant. Without judgment, without rejection, without disgust, love takes away the burden of sin. Love covers all faults the Word tells us (Proverbs 12:10). Jesus' sacrifice cleanses us from all sins but we must allow the love of God to take away the reproach (the smell of shame) and the guilt of those who are forgiven by God.
That same evening, Jesus, in terrible anguish, carried to Gethsemane all the weight of human suffering, of your suffering. Beloved, are you ready to be the hands of Jesus to “wash” the feet of his disciples ? Will you abandon your prejudices, decorum to bring the consolation of the Spirit of God to those who are rejected because of their past and yet love the Lord with all their heart ?
Open your eyes, they are everywhere... Then you will know the height of love.
Have a good day.
