The inner healing (1) !

Proverbs 23:7 – For he is like the thoughts of his soul.

I would like to talk to you about inner healing. The human personality is complex and many people suffer, including children of God, in their innermost being which the Bible calls the heart. Yet we are given the promise that the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, will come and heal the brokenhearted. It is a truth much easier to say than to live, it nevertheless remains a truth and like all the promises of God, it is given so that we live it fully. Before giving some “advice”, it is important to know how we function as human beings and for that I would like to address three things : beliefs, burying and reacting.

As our verse tells us, we are what we believe we are, that is, the product of our beliefs. Our beliefs are formed and evolve based on four “databases” : heredity, education, life experience and spiritual influence.

We have all inherited part of their personality from our “biological” parents. Like them, we have tendencies to be temperamental, sentimental or intellectual. Temperamentals are strong personalities who tend to overwhelm others. Sentimentals are weak personalities who follow the decisions of their hearts beyond all reason. Intellectuals pass everything through the sieve of reason beyond all feeling. I will not develop this area here but it is important to know that regeneration must also reach us in this place so that it is our will which makes the decisions, enlightened by our intellect which understands the Word of God and by our feelings which push us to please the Lord.

Education is an important element too. Education is not limited to what our parents instilled in us. In fact, all the information we collect in our childhood and adolescence will shape our beliefs. This information can be right or wrong, childhood credulity will cause us to take this information as truth. In addition to parents, they can come from school, television, classmates, a doctor or whatever... They will have an impact on us, an impact all the more important if this information comes from a person who exercises authority over us.

Our experiences continue to root these beliefs in us. We will talk about this in more detail in the burying but our life experiences strongly impact our thinking and establish strongholds in our reasoning.

Finally, the spiritual world, whether of God or of darkness, influences our way of thinking and believing. You will have understood, the battlefield is our thoughts and not our feelings. This is where healing comes for our wounded hearts.
