The interferences of God

"That night the king could not sleep, and he brought the book of records, the Chronicles, and read them before the king." Esther 6.1

In one of his books, Dr. David Neubauer reports that nearly one in two adults suffer from insomnia, while 10 to 15 percent suffer from severe or chronic sleep disorders. Why is insomnia such a big problem ? Studies have shown that the causes are multiple and include lack of exercise, poor diet, illness, mental or emotional problems, worries and anxieties.

God can use insomnia - or anything else - to achieve his plans.

However Christians must understand that God sometimes realizes his plans by interfering in the course of our ordinary life, even by events such as sleepless nights. Perhaps he wants to talk to us, get our attention, get us to think about something in particular, or put us in such a position that we have to act, such as praying or reading His Word.

It was during a night of insomnia that Ahasuerus made a discovery that changed the course of history. That night, while reading the annals of his kingdom, he realized that Mordecai had not been rewarded for saving his life. Following this discovery, Mordecai was raised. As for Haman, who had sought to kill the Jews, he was punished and the Jews were saved. All this because Assuérus could not sleep.

Remember that God can use insomnia - or anything else - to achieve his plans. The next time you can not sleep - or the events of your life are interrupted - look to God. Ask him if he is not trying to do something, to get your attention. Listen to him and always ready to interfere with your schedule. Allow him to surprise you, to talk to you, to challenge you, to teach you, to give you a new direction, in a word to change you.

A prayer for today

Lord, I submit to you my life. You are the potter, I am clay. Give shape to my life. Shape me as the vessel that you desire that I be and use me for your kingdom. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
