The King of kings without palace !

"The next day John stood there, as did two of his disciples ; And looking at Jesus as he walked, he said,: Behold the Lamb of God ! The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. Jesus turned and saw that they were following him ; He said unto them : What seek ye ? They said to him : Rabbi (which is translated as : "master"), where do you dwell ?" John 1: 35-38

One day the Lord said to the crowd : "Behold, those who are clothed magnificently and who live in delight are in the palaces of kings" (Luke 7:25). Yes, kings have palaces ! Now, before John the Baptist and his two disciples, stands the Son of God, the Creator of heaven and earth, the King of kings. He came as a man. But the two disciples of John, no more than other men, know his palace because he has none on earth. Jesus is not of this world, he has no mind, nor does he seek in any way the ephemeral glory of this world. Humble and meek, he does not have a "place to rest his head" (Luke 9: 58). Moreover, his dwelling is spiritual, it is "the breast of the Father", his most absolute intimacy.

The King of kings does not recruit his disciples to make them benefit from what shines in the eyes of men: palaces, well-stocked tables, sumptuous garments. On the contrary, Jesus seeks men who follow Him for Himself and not for their profit. He will find, for example, these two disciples who cling to him because they have heard John's testimony : "This is the Lamb of God" and "This is the Son of God." They desire to dwell with him in order to get to know truly the man whom John the Baptist spoke to them.

Nothing is said about the conversations they had with the "Lamb of God," but their hearts are so full that André hastens to see his own brother Simon. He leads him to Jesus saying : "We have found the Messiah !" (John 1:41). This was what a Jew was waiting for and ardently desired, to see the Messiah, the Christ.

Like Andrew and his companion (presumably the Apostle John), let us seek to dwell with the Lord to know Him. The knowledge of his glorious person will give us the desire to live to please him in all respects.
