The love is helpful

Christ is the servant par excellence. He came to earth as a weak plant, to serve. He will say in this regard : "For the Son of Man has come not to be served, but to serve and give his life a ransom for many" (Mark 10:45). The love is helpful, and if we want to be effective, we will have to develop the character that was in Christ. We can not forget that Christ made the choice to take a condition similar to ours to serve us.

Jesus said : "There is no greater love than to give your life for your friends" (John 15:13). Oh, what a statement ! What a challenge! If we love our friends, then we will give our lives for them. In fact, the Lord calls us to give our lives for them, and we can not do that without the presence of the Holy Spirit. We can not, humanly, serve others at this level. For my part, I am in any case unable. I need the power of the Holy Spirit, I need that Christ be formed in me and help me, day after day, to give up my life and to adopt forever his feelings, his desires, his intentions, his love.

Jesus makes a direct link between the love we need to manifest and the efficacy we will have in his kingdom (John 15: 12,16). If we love, then we will become effective. We can not love without serving, but we can serve without loving. We must love, then serve because we love. The Bible declares that we could distribute all our goods to the poor, without love, it would be useless (1 Corinthians 13: 3) ! So we see that people do good works, but not directed by love. Coluche made many good things through the restaurants of the heart, but it was not the divine love, the love that comes from God, that pure love that animated him. He wanted to help because he loved people. He loved them, but not the love of God. We must love with the love that God has poured into our hearts.
