The love unconditional

"Love is strong as death ... Many waters can not extinguish love, and rivers do not overwhelm it." Song of Songs 8. 6, 7

The believer is loved by the Father and the Son ; when he feels this love, he gives him many qualifiers, which sometimes ... exceed a little ! He speaks of deep, eternal, immeasurable love, above all things, unconditional ... But in fact, what is unconditional love ?

Unconditional means : which is not subject to conditions, which is not reserved for particular specific situations. Divine love is thus ; it is permanent and at its maximum intensity for each of the redeemed, whatever the circumstances that it crosses, whatever the feelings it feels. God's unconditional love for his people continues to give generously without expecting anything in return. It is such a radical notion that it is difficult to fully grasp. Nothing in heaven or on earth can put an end to divine love for the redeemed ; it is constant in its intensity ; the only thing that can change is the consciousness that the believer has.

During the most terrible night he lived on earth, Jesus was denied by Peter, his disciple who seemed the most hot for him ; when the words of denial were spoken, "the Lord turned and looked at Peter" (Luke 22. 61). Let us not doubt it, it is not a look filled with anger or reproach that Jesus fixes on his disciple, but a look filled with love that will melt Peter in tears. This is the unconditional love !

A few hours later, when he is crucified, what does Jesus ask of his Father ? "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do" (Luke 23. 34). This is also the unconditional love !

We may feel more beloved when our behavior is "up to the mark" and less loved when it is unsatisfactory ? These are human perceptions. Unconsciously we feel more deserving or more unworthy, but God's love for us is the same. He loved us when there was nothing kind in us ; he continues to love us despite our weaknesses, our faults, even our denials ; he will continue to love us to the end because "love never perishes" (1 Corinthians 13: 8).
