The most precious privacy

Here I am standing at the door and knocking. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will go into his house and have supper with him and he with me. Revelation 3:20

What is most extraordinary about God's message to men is that he, the Creator, seeks a unique relationship with each of us, his creatures. Unique because on the same level, as an equal. Unimaginable : to unite the infinitely small - or almost - to the infinitely large in a relationship of reciprocal love! Yes, it is.

Don't try to understand ; it is incomprehensible and inconceivable. But the Lord expresses it thus in our text ; he asks to come in and it is to eat him with us and us with him !

This concerns everyone, from the most worthy of interest in our eyes to the most unworthy. Elsewhere, from the pen of Paul, we read that his goal is to be, in the end, all in all (1 Corinthians 15:28), another way, it seems to me, of saying the same thing !

To think that I am concerned, that it is really an intimacy between him and me, me and him, is overwhelming. That he has mercy on me and forgives my infidelities is already extraordinary ; that he intends me to live eternally in his presence, what can I say ? But it's much more, being so close to each other that it's like fused into each other... Me with him and he with me. Anything I would like to add would be trivial !

And to think that he's knocking on my door like yours !
