"It was in him that you were instructed to ... be renewed by the Spirit in your understanding." Ephesians 4.21-23
Throughout the pages of the Bible, we see illustrated this important truth : the Holy Spirit releases his power from the moment we take a step of faith.
Let us make our own habits of Jesus.
When Joshua and the people came before an impassable obstacle, the waters of the Jordan did not separate until the priests set foot in the tumultuous waters in an act of obedience and faith. Obedience releases the power of God.
God wants you to take the first step. Do not wait to feel strong or secure. Advance in your weakness, in spite of your fears or your feelings. This is how you collaborate with the Holy Spirit and your character is formed.
If efforts do not play any part in your salvation, they enter a great deal into your spiritual growth. The New Testament repeatedly exhorts us to "strive" to grow in the likeness of Jesus (2 Peter 3:14).
- We must give up our old ways of acting. "... what you were before, you must get rid of it like an old garment" (Ephesians 4:22).
- Our way of thinking must also change. "Understand things in a new way, according to the Spirit of God" (Romans 12: 2).
Let us make our own habits of Jesus. Our character is essentially the sum of our habits, that is the way we behave in general. The Bible says : "Put on the new nature created in the likeness of God and manifested in the righteous and holy life of truth" (Ephesians 4.24).
Action for Today
