The open sky

"Jesus also being baptized and praying, heaven opened ; And the Holy Spirit descended upon him in a corporeal form, like a dove ; And there was a voice from heaven : Thou art my beloved Son ; In you I have found my pleasure." Luke 3, 21, 22

A dense crowd approached John the Baptist on the banks of the Jordan. Among them, anonymous and discreet, Jesus, a Jew among the Jews, comes forward! He is baptized and prays. But the Father does not want His Son to be confounded with all who are present. Heaven opens for him and the Holy Spirit descends upon him. On Him alone can the Spirit descend as a dove, for in him all is purity. The Father makes his voice heard, he can not remain silent when he sees his Son on the banks of the Jordan among sinners.

The heavens were already opened for the prophet Ezekiel : "The heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God ..." (Ezekiel 1: 1). With a few centuries in advance, he distinguishes in heavenly splendor, above that which resembles a throne, a being having the appearance of a man. In front of this extraordinary vision which announces the coming of God as a man in the person of Christ Jesus, Ezekiel immediately falls on his face (verses 26-29).

Later, the heavens opened before Stephen, the first known martyr of the faith. While he is going to be stoned, he contemplates Christ in glory : "I see the heavens open and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God" (Acts 7: 56).

Today, heaven is open to all believers, for they have the immense privilege of being able to contemplate their Savior sitting at the right hand of God : "We see Jesus, who was made a little less than the angels Of the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honor" (Heb. 2: 9).

Finally, heaven will open when Jesus comes to destroy all his enemies and all those who oppose him, the day he enters his reign : "Then I saw heaven open : and behold, a white horse, Called Faithful and True ; He judges and fights in court" (Rev. 19:11).

When the sky opens, it is always Jesus that we see ! Even today, the Father presents us with his Son and invites us to welcome him fully to find all our joy in him !
