The path to follow... or not to follow !

“Train up the child in the way he should go ! even when he is old, he will not deviate from it.” Proverbs 22.6

This verse is often taken only one way, but it has a tails side and a tails side ! He doesn't just mean that by instilling good habits in your children they will remember them later as adults, but also that bad habits will lead them down a bad path. Why, for example, a little girl whose father is an alcoholic and never happy with her, grows up and marries a man who looks like her father, then spends the rest of her life trying to please him by raising her own children in the same way ? Why does a boy whose father, always absent, only seems to come home to scold his children to "put them back on the right track", grow up and discover, with his own children, that he is only capable of scolding them without never encourage them or simply say “I love you” to them ? These are examples that illustrate this biblical verse : “I am a jealous God. I punish the fault of the fathers on the children until the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me“ (Exodus 20. 5). Our children can only manage in life with the tools we put in their hands. Parents, commit to breaking the destructive chain that may be running through your family and raising your children differently. Never tell them : "Why don't you look more like your brother (or sister) ?" No child is meant to be a clone of their brother or sister. Don't try to mold it to your lost ambitions, or to someone else's image. Be rather happy that he is different, help him develop his uniqueness. If our children never hear words of love or encouragement from our mouths, how will they learn to say it to their own children ? Something to meditate on, don't you think ?
