"Do not worry about anything, but, in all circumstances, expose your petitions to God by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving ; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will keep your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4. 6, 7
When we live in tragic circumstances, fear can take hold, even in the believer's heart. So, let's listen to the Word of God :
- "Do not fear their fears, and be not troubled" (1 Pet. 3. 14).
"He will not fear bad news ; his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord"(Psalm 11: 7).
God really wants to give us his peace as a gift, an undeserved grace. "The LORD lifts up his face upon you and gives you peace" (Name 6. 26). The Lord Jesus left these wonderful words to his disciples : "I leave you peace ; I give you my peace ; I do not give you, as the world gives. May not your heart be troubled or fearful" (John 14:27). He tells them that just a few hours before Golgotha ; the next day he will be on a cross ...
After the cross, in chapter 20 of this same gospel, he repeats three times to his distraught and fearful disciples : "Peace to you". Listen to this word in the midst of our fears, let's make it ours.
It is the same Jesus who slept peacefully in the midst of a storm, on a pillow that a loving hand had put there in the boat. There was no more human heart - and therefore more sensitive - than his. He then knew our infirmities, our human limits ... and conquered them.
Paul will also face a storm and show confidence that has encouraged everyone around him (Acts 27). We have an influence on others, do not doubt it ...
Gideon, so fearful in his call to service, built an altar to the LORD : "Yahweh Shalom" (The Eternal Peace - Jug 6: 24). When we have fears, a solution : praise our great God of the peace !
The peace is one of the aspects of the fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5: 22). Let us seek it, because it tends to run away from us (Romans 14:19), and we bring it around us (Matthew 5: 9).
What a powerful witness it will be !
