The points of view that God chooses

The Eternal spake unto Moses, saying : Go up upon this mountain... And the Eternal showed him all the land. Deuteronomy 32:49 34:1

God... laid me on a high mountain. Ezekiel 40. 2

(An angel) transported me in spirit to a great and high mountain. And he showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, which came down out of heaven from God, having the glory of God. Revelation 21:9,10

Whether it is Moses, the prophet Ezekiel or the apostle John, God desires to reveal his thoughts to them.

To Moses, God shows the whole land of Canaan, a figure of the spiritual blessings of the Christian. For Ezekiel, God shows him the temple which will be built at the beginning of the millennial reign of Christ. It must be the object of all his attention : it is the place where Christ will be a priest on his throne (Zechariah 6:13). As for John, God reveals to him what the Church will be like during the reign of Christ, in her character as a bride, seen under the figure of a holy city.

What God reveals to these three men of faith is his desire to dwell with men, whether Israel or the Church. In present times, the Church is the temple of God, the habitation of God by the Spirit (Ephesians 2:22). As New Jerusalem, it will remain his permanent habitation (Revelation 21:3). God wants these three men to have a vision that is complete and consistent with his own. This is why they must take the height and contemplate it from a high mountain. The mountain is an image of communion with God, apart from the world and its concerns or distractions. Jesus retired to a mountain to pray (Matthew 14:23). It was there also that he took his disciples to witness his glory (Matthew 17:1).

Seeking God's point of view, we will see the Church as the Bride whom Christ loved and for whom he gave himself up... to present himself... to him - even, glorious, having neither spot, nor wrinkle, nor anything like that, but that she be holy and blameless (Ephesians 5:25,27). We can better appreciate the immense riches of his grace and the spiritual blessings gained through Christ's sacrifice on the cross. The prospect of being associated with Christ in his reign will have its full effect of joy and peace.

In the presence of God, listening to him, we learn to enjoy more his inexpressible gift (2 Corinthians 9:15) and to see all things as he sees them.
