The presence of the Son of God

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego fell bound in the midst of the fiery furnace. Then king Nebuchadnezzar, in dismay, arose hastily and spoke and said to his counsellors : Have we not thrown three bound men into the midst of the fire ? They answered and said to the king : Surely, O king ! He answered and said, Behold, I see four loose men walking about in the midst of the fire, and they have no harm ; and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of God. Daniel 3:23-25

Many who witnessed this scene must have thought that these three men were stupid, stubborn and stubborn. They just had to do like everyone else ! What is a bow, if not a gesture that does not commit to anything ? Besides, was it not Nebuchadnezzar himself who had ordered people to bow down before the statue ? Was he not placed on the throne by God himself ? Why then contest his recognized authority of God ?

But the three Jews know the true God. There is no question for them to deny it. It is not out of bravado or rebellion, but it is to honor Him whom they know as the Almighty God, who delivers those who trust in Him. For them, he is the living God, the only one worthy of worship, unlike the golden idol, a statue that does not see, speak or hear.

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego are thrown into the fiery furnace. But there, miracle ! The Son of God joins them. Is not this unexpected presence the greatest favor and the greatest consolation for them ? They will be saved. What an unforgettable experience ! They rubbed shoulders with the Son of God, a close God (Jeremiah 23:23), powerful to deliver those who love him and trust in him.

The more we love our Savior, crowned with glory and honor, who has all authority, the greater will be our trust in Him.

Even in countries where Christians are not persecuted, opportunities often arise for everyone to bear clear witness before unbelievers. Let us therefore be aware of the presence of Jesus, the Son of God, at our side. Count on his help and we will win in the small battles of faith, which build the great faith needed to achieve greater victories.
