The real light

"I am the light of the world ; he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but he will have the light of life." John 8. 12

The benefits of light on the body and life in general are known. A person with a normal view can not remain in absolute darkness for a long time otherwise it will sink gradually into madness. A plant can not do without light for a long time, otherwise it will wither and die. The light was what God first created for the empty and empty earth : "Let there be light. And the light was" (Gen 1: 3) and he separated it from the darkness seeing that it was good.

In the world, there are various kinds of lights : some are blinding, like car headlights, neon lights, spotlights ... Others are bright, like the moon, candles, lamps ... Even if they illuminate in ways different, they all have one thing in common : they all end up disappearing or dying !

The eighteenth century was called in Europe "the century of lights". Man wanted to drive out darkness, ignorance and lies through knowledge, science, philosophy, art, industry. This will is always present; these intellectual or moral lights can attract us by their utility, but they do not reach the true light. Satan brings a false light to add to the confusion : he "disguises himself as an angel of light" (2 Corinthians 11:14). This light is deceptive, it only projects its illusions and lies.

One light never extinguishes, the light that comes from God is the light in its absolute : "The Lord is God, he has given us light" (Ps 118. 27). This light really illuminates our steps and reveals the truth. The light of God leads us to look into the truth, the darkness can not extinguish it. The light of God is constant, unalterable, true.

When difficult or painful times arise in our lives, it is important to remember that this light is there with us, inside of us and it never fails. Even if sometimes we do not feel it, this light will never stop. The cloud that passes in front of the sun does not extinguish it !
