The resurrection of Christ : a thing foreseen !

"As [David] was a prophet and knew that God had sworn to him that he would cause some of his descendants to sit on his throne, he said of the resurrection of Christ, Was not left in Hades and that his flesh did not either see corruption. This Jesus, God raised him up : we are all witnesses." Acts 2: 30-32

This is what Peter teaches us in the passage of the day, taken from his first speech after the resurrection of Jesus. More than a thousand years before Christ was born and then died in this world, it had been announced that this same Christ would come out victor of death !

A man among the sages, "Ethan the Ezrakhite" (1 Kings 4:31), says of David in Psalm 89 : "I will establish your offspring forever, and I will build your throne from generation to generation" (V. 4). We understand that this could only be possible if this "Son of David" (Matthew 21: 9, 15) was revived after death. The resurrected Jesus will say : "It is written thus ; And so Christ had to suffer, that he should rise from the dead on the third day "(Luke 24:46).

Many things were written in advance about Christ, "in the law of Moses, in the prophets and in the Psalms" (Luke 24:44). The Messiah will first be put to death (Dan. 9. 26 and Isa. 53: 8), but "He will prolong his days" also says Isaiah (Isaiah 53:10).

Two things are already accomplished: the death and resurrection of Christ. But his reign is yet to come. Announced in advance by Isaiah, Daniel and many other prophets, it will take place as surely as the first two events.

Ecclesiastes says : "He came out of the house of the prisoners to reign, even though he was born poor in his kingdom" (Ecclesiastes 4:14). Who was "poor" ? Who is "out of the house of the prisoners" ? Who should reign ? We think of Jesus. Daniel 7, 13, 14 speaks of a "son of man" who advances to the Ancient of days. Domination, honor and royalty are given to him for eternity. Yes, all this has been written and foretold for the eternal glory of the Risen One who will bring many sons to glory (Heb. 2: 10) !
