The revival preachers and their message

The revival preachers of the last centuries had a message very different from that of the Church today. More and more, Christians want to caress the emotions of unbelievers, trying to show a kind Jesus who will not ask them to change. These Christians preach only what is beneficial to man, not to mention the renunciation of dead works, death to oneself and the price to pay. This is also why many new converts abandon the Lord so quickly. Did they really know one day ?

Last night I was reading a book by Charles Finney on the alarm clock. I was happy to see that what I wrote these days about "Inexcusable and rebellious to God" was powerfully confirmed by Finney. Finney writes : "For at least ten years, I have observed that revivals have gradually become increasingly superficial... There is much less deep conviction of sin and deep heartbreak, much less humility. true, and much less power in all the graces manifested in the lives of those who converted during the last revivals...

I have observed, as others have done, that revivals have a much shorter duration, and that they provoke a much more sudden and disastrous reaction than before. I also noted that a smaller number of converts became stable and effective Christians. As for those who persevere, they seem to be less filled with the Spirit of Christ than during previous revivals. They do not have the same spirit of prayer, they are not so modest or so humble. In short, judging by my own experience and the observations of other witnesses, all the phenomena accompanying the most recent revivals have been much less desirable than before."

The next 3 days, I will mention the 3 reasons that Finney gives to explain this spiritual decline.
