The riches of God

"To me, who is less than the least of all saints, this grace has been given to proclaim among the nations the unfathomable riches of Christ, and to bring to light before all the administration of the mystery kept hidden at all times in God who created everything." Ephesians 3: 8, 9

What a contrast : "the least of all saints" is charged with announcing "the unfathomable riches of Christ"! These riches are the revelation of God the Son, who came among men to manifest God and to realize his plans. The revelation of this mystery is not reserved for a few initiates, it is for all those who believe, in the present time of grace.

What a subject of gratitude is this riches ! On earth, precious things are generally rare ; but here, by these two words "riches" and "unfathomable", Paul shows that in Christ what is precious is at the same time unlimited ! "The mystery of God (Christ) in which are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge" gives us the key to inexhaustible treasures (Col. 2: 3).

God has abundantly provided for all the needs of our being : "My God will fulfill all your needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus" (Phil 4: 19). Let us entrust ourselves to Him for this, knowing that the greatest needs of man created in the image of God are spiritual (Matt 6: 25-34). By ourselves we have no capacity to satisfy them. But God answers it through Jesus, the source and channel of all blessings.

Among these unfathomable riches of God, offered as blessings in Christ, are :

- "the immense riches of his grace" (Ephesians 2: 7)

- "the riches of his goodness, of his patience and of his long support" (Rom 2: 4), and of his "mercy" (Ephesians 2: 4)

- "the riches of his glory" (that of the Father) (Ephesians 3:16, Phil 4:19)

- "the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints" (Ephesians 1:18)

All of this is given to us without limit, right now and forever. We have no right to remain poor. Let us learn to know the riches we have, let us apply ourselves to seeking them ; we will not exhaust them, they are infinite !
