The robber saved - Proposed reading : Luke 23. 39-43

Three crosses! The middle cross is that of Jesus, and on each side that of a crucified thief.

One of them was saved at the last moment, so that no one would despair. His eyes were opened by faith on the work that Christ, the crucified in the middle, was doing. The revelation of Christ to her soul, by the Spirit, convinces her of her entire guilt. He said to his companion : "We receive what our deeds deserve." While recognizing that he deserved his own punishment, he bore a beautiful testimony to Christ : "This one has done nothing wrong."

Then, turning to Jesus, the repentant thief prayed to him : "Lord, remember me when you come to reign". So just after recognizing the innocence of Jesus before the other wrongdoer, he turns to Christ. He thinks neither of his pain nor of those who are before the cross; he recognizes Jesus as Savior and as King. He is certain that his kingdom will come, where death cannot enter. There is for him no cloud, no doubt, but the peaceful and firm conviction that the Lord will come into his kingdom.

Jesus gives her much more than what her faith asked for : "Today you will be with me in paradise".
