The secret is perseverance

“You need perseverance to accomplish the will of God and thus obtain what is promised to you.” Hebrews 10:36

Three words could sum up the life of Moses : “he stood firm” (Hebrews 11:27). Success almost always goes through the difficulties box, progress through the failures box, maturity through the adversity box. Let’s not forget that the Latin etymology of the word perseverance means: “through severity”, in other words : “through difficult times”. Without difficulty, perseverance means nothing. Do you know this saying : "a sea of oil never produced a seasoned sailor" ? Our civilization is that of the microwave. We want everything without delay. We no longer have the patience to prepare recipes that require hours of cooking. In order to accomplish the will of God and thus please Him, how can we develop the art of perseverance ?

1- accepting with serenity the difficulties and the persecution in whatever form it comes. (2 Timothy 3:12).

2- by recognizing that often these difficulties come from ourselves, in the form of fear, worries, doubts, lack of recognition towards God... etc.

3- by seeking the truth. Persevering in the wrong direction is not very smart! Jesus said : “If you abide in My word, you are truly My disciples, you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8: 31,32). Knowing and practicing the truth will justify our persistence.

4- taking the time to endure the difficulties. Perseverance takes time, sometimes long and painful to live. Marie Durand persevered for 38 years in the Tour de Constance, in Aigues-Mortes, without renouncing her faith.

5- trusting in God : “Place your trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, yes, the Lord, is the everlasting rock" (= the solid foundation of your faith) (Isaiah 26.4). In other words, the solid foundation of your faith should be your trust in God. This is the secret of perseverance !
