The Spirit in control !

Genesis 2.7 (BFC) - The Lord God took dust from the ground and made a human being out of it. Then he breathed the breath of life into her nostrils, and that human being came alive.

If we understand this verse correctly, God shaped Adam’s body with matter, he breathed into him a spirit of life and he became a living soul. Man, in the image of God, was created in three parts : his body, his soul and his spirit. It means that in every human being there is a part of God which is the spirit. This is why Solomon will be able to say that in the heart (the center) of man there is the thought of eternity (Ecclesiastes 3:11). Unfortunately, sin killed the spirit, and it is only the miracle of being born again that can remedy this condition.

This part of God in us seeks to reach its Creator. Our spirit has an eternal need to be in fellowship with God. The most terrible anguish of hell will be to be separated for eternity from the presence of God, it will be the subject of perpetual torment.

The human being has become a living soul. This is what makes us so! This is where our will, our intellect, and our feelings are located. Because of the fall, the soul has become rebellious to God and supplants the spirit. When we give ourselves to Christ, our spirit regains its capacity for life. The daily challenge of the Christian life is that the spirit comes to subdue the soul ; may it be metamorphosed by the Word of God and fellowship with the Holy Spirit. The character of the unregenerated soul is the worst enemy of spiritual life in us. This is why conversion is not the fruit of a feeling or a sensation but the fruit of the awakening of consciousness.

My beloveds, I am explaining all of this so that we can probe the "value" of our conversion. What brought me to Jesus the Christ ? When I heard the Word of God, did my conscience wake up and be convinced of the sin in my life ? Has my character radically changed to "align" with the qualities of the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22 and 23) ? The stakes are too great for us to overlook such an essential issue. It is not enough to say : “Lord, Lord !". If our spirit, under the impulse of the Spirit of God, does not have control over our whole being, it is time to call on the Lord to come to our aid !
