The Spirit of God (2)

Every born again believer has the Holy Spirit who dwells in his body as in a temple (1 Corinthians 6:19). In the verses cited, the Spirit is presented in three aspects:

- A seal, a mark of belonging. It bears the name of its owner, or a sign identifying its owner. By the seal of the Holy Spirit, God therefore places a mark on the believer : this mark unambiguously identifies the believer as belonging to God.

- Deposit : we pay a deposit on a sum of money that we owe, to guarantee full payment later. The Holy Spirit, which the believer has in his heart today, gives him, with the certainty of belonging to Jesus, peace, joy, in the expectation of the perfect happiness which he will inherit with Jesus in heaven.

- An anointing : it is the act of pouring oil on someone's head to set him apart, in order to confer on him a particular function, such as the priesthood (Exodus 29.7) or kingship (1 Samuel 16. 11-13). Today the Holy Spirit makes the child of God capable of understanding what pleases God and of living it, whatever his age in the faith (1 John 2:20). The anointing of the Holy Spirit gives everyone a mission and qualifies them to serve God.
