The "Stolpersteine"
The stone rejected by those who built has become the cornerstone. It is also a stone which hinders and a rock suitable for tripping. 1 Peter 2.7-8
In May 2019, several dozen Stolpersteine were installed in the city center of Strasbourg. Stolpersteine, "stumbling stones" in French, are cobblestones whose upper face is covered with brass and on which are mentioned the name, and the dates of birth and death, of a victim of the Holocaust. They are placed in her memory in front of the house where she lived before the war. There are more than 70,000 in 25 countries. A stumbling block is a stumbling block... And sometimes we need to stumble on an unforeseen obstacle to rekindle our memory.
In the Bible, Jesus is presented as the main stone on which his Church is built, the whole formed by those who believe in him and have a living relationship with him. This is, in fact, what is found in the Scriptures on this subject : I put in Zion a cornerstone, chosen, precious. Whoever believes in it will never be ashamed of it. It is therefore precious for you who believe When to those who disobey... (1 Peter 2: 6-7) it becomes a stumbling block...
What a solemn warning! To reject Jesus is to refuse the hand that God extends to us to save us... To accept it is to be able to build your life on a solid and eternal rock !
