"Thanks to the Lord, my heart is full of joy ..." 1 Samuel 1.1
Here is a hymn of gratitude from Anne who wishes to express her gratitude to God for the child Samuel whom he has given her. It is true that at first everything was not obvious to her. Struck by sterility, her heart was gnawed by sadness, despite the sustained efforts of her husband who tried to make her forget her affliction. "Elkana, her husband, said to her, "Anne, why do you weep, and do not eat, why is your heart saddened ?" 1 Samuel 1.8
To see you crying and being sad does not rejoice at all the heart of God.
Her grief will continue until she receives a promise from God who had just put her finger on the deep reason for her grief. "And Eli spake, and said, Go in peace, and let the God of Israel hear the prayer which you have spoken unto him. 1 Samuel 1.17
I know someone who, for many years, hardly ever smiled. He was a faithful and devoted person in the church, but with a heavy burden that saddened his heart. Then one day the time of God came, he heard his prayer and his heart rejoiced, which made his face radiant more radiant.
And what is the state of your heart ? Happy ? Sad ? Melancholic ? By looking at you in your mirror you will certainly discover the expression on your face. "A joyous heart makes the face serene, but when the heart is sad, the spirit is dejected." Proverbs 15:13
Our life is marked by a multitude of things that can make us sad. However, what most delights our soul is our belonging to God which is the foundation of our joy.
"The Lord thy God is in the midst of thee, as a hero who saves : he shall make thee great joy, and he shall keep silence in his love: he shall be glad for thee."
To see you crying and being sad does not rejoice at all the heart of God. Like Anne, he will not hesitate for a moment to pour down on your lives a shower of blessings in answering your prayers. So open your divine mirror, His Word, and take hold of His promises on this subject.
"I have gathered thy words, and I have devoured them: thy words have made the joy and gladness of my heart ..." Jeremiah 15:16
A prayer for today
Lord, I thank you for the joy you put in my heart, teach me every day to rejoice in your presence ! Amen.
