"Jesus said to them : Come away in a desolate place, and rest a little, for there were many going and coming, and they did not even have time to eat." Mark 6.31
I like those rhymes of Charles François Panard (1689 - 1765), which emphasize that too much is always harmful on one side or the other : "Too much rest numbs us, Too many crashes stuns us, too cold Is indolence, Too much turbulence activity."
There is room for meditation on these various excesses, but I propose that you reflect only on the last point: too much activity. Too much activity hampers the effectiveness of what we do and sometimes forces us to bottle things down. In the area of activities, some are beyond the limits of their abilities, strengths and abilities. When Jesus saw his disciples reach these limits, he asked them to rest a little. He knows that too much activity is a source of exhaustion.
You feel frustrated, irritated, depressed ... Maybe you crossed the red line and pulled too much on the rope. You wanted to do everything, too fast! The time has come to rest a little! It is the intelligence of balance in all things that God wants you to cultivate. To him who wants to be everywhere at once, who never stops, God says : "There is a time for everything, a time for all things under the heavens" (Ecclesiastes 3: 1).
You know this popular adage full of wisdom : "That too embraces bad embrace". To want to do too much is wrong ! So listen to the message of Christ: "Rest a little !" Just what you need to find the joy of living, the happiness of serving, the necessary healing. Did not you wonder if too much activity was not a form of activism that flattered your ego ? Do not forget that too much activity is only a form of slavery, sometimes going as far as dependence. Some work too hard to forget their worries, their problems. But this too much activity can only aggravate their physical situation without being able to solve their problems.
A prayer for today
Lord, becoming aware that my frustration, my irritation ... come from an excess of activity, I want to learn from you to know to stop, to find in calm and confidence the harmonious balance that will get me out of my turbulence.
