In modern evangelism, people have been told that it is enough to believe in Jesus to be saved. But this is not true. I would like to tell you that believing in Jesus (only) has never saved anyone.
Many philosophers and theologians believe in Jesus but are lost. Many people in the traditional Christian religion believe in Jesus and they are no more saved than those who are in hell today. Demons believe in Jesus and are just as lost. "You believe there is one God, you do well ; the demons believe it too, and they tremble" (James 2:19).
Today, people are preached to be cute and kind. They are told they are great. They are told that by believing in Jesus or accepting him, they will be even more cute, kind and super. But as we have already said, they are lost, enemies of God and terribly rebellious to his authority. If we do not put people in front of their sins, how can they repent ? They need to understand that in their condition, even if they have faith in Jesus, they are lost. Let us remember that millions of people who believe in Jesus pray to the dead and have never repented of their sins.
Faced with the adulterous woman, Jesus said to her : "I do not condemn you, but go and sin no more" (John 8:11). Before the Samaritan woman, Jesus also puts her face to her sinful condition by making her understand that her love life is dissolved. It's not faith alone that saves! James will say a powerful truth : "My brothers and sisters, what is the use of someone to say that he has faith, if he does not have works ? Can this faith save him ? The same goes for faith : if she does not produce works, she is dead in herself" (James 2: 14-17).
Someone who does not have the works of faith, that is, the true faith of salvation, will die in his sins and go to hell. This is an integral part of the gospel message.
