The value of peace

“May the peace of Christ, to which you have been called into one body, reign in your heart.” Colossians 3:15

The first thing you will lose as you step away from God's will for your life is your inner peace. If peace has left you, don't go one step further ! Listen : “You shall go out in joy, and be led in peace” (Isaiah 55:12). Inner peace is often the only thing God gives you to let you know that you are obeying His will. If you ignore this advice, you will later regret it bitterly, for it is easier to stray from the path of His will than to return to it ! Jesus said : “My peace I give you ; I do not give it to you as the world gives” (John 14:27). The world offers a feeling of peace depending on favorable circumstances, but when the storm rages around you and you remain calm and peaceful, then you know “the peace of God, which is beyond all that one can understand, will keep. your heart and your mind in Christ Jesus” (Philippians. 4.7). “But how can I get this peace ?” you will say. By committing your whole life in His hands, through prayer. So you will transfer all your worries to the shoulders of Jesus. “Cast all your worries on Him, for He Himself takes care of you... Watch, your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion seeking whom he will devour. Resist him with firm faith knowing that the same sufferings are imposed on your brothers in the world. The God of all grace... after you have suffered a little while, He Himself will perfect you, strengthen you, strengthen you, make you unshakeable” (2 Peter 5:7-10). But beware of the other side of the coin ! Do not justify your conduct by claiming that you enjoy the inner peace that God has granted you as a reward for following His will. Remember that His will never contradicts His word. If you disobey the latter, know that your so-called “peace” is false. First obey what God indicates to you in His word, follow the path which He discovers before you and you will know the peace, true and lasting, which can only come from Him.
