They found Jesus !

Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter, and Philip found Nathanael. John 1.43-45

How can we reach out and touch those who do not know the Lord ? Let us see the example of two of the first disciples of Jesus. Philip and Nathanael were both "found", but in a totally different way.

It was Jesus himself who found Philip.

It was Jesus himself who found Philip. Nothing indicates that Philippe wanted to be "found". He lived his life quietly when Jesus found him and called him. But once he had responded to the call and decided to follow Jesus, he felt compelled to share the Good News. It was he who "found" Nathanael and said to him : "We have found the one that is spoken of in the law of Moses and in the prophets, Jesus of Nazareth the son of Joseph" (John 1:45).

Nathanael had questions and doubts. He also ended up making a personal encounter with Jesus and was convinced that he was "the Son of God ... the King of Israel" (John 1: 45-49).

As we think of people we know, we can pray that God will act sovereignly and reveal himself to them, as he did to men like Philip. But he also wants us to be like this disciple and go to others. That we think of others who need the gospel. May we speak to them about Jesus and what he did for us.

Do you know people who need to know Jesus ? Pray for them. Pray for God to intervene in their lives. Let him open their eyes. Let him speak to them and call them. But do not forget to share what he has done for you. Be a witness full of boldness. And do not forget to give your time, talents and resources to others to be saved.

A prayer for today

Father, I entrust to you the names of the people who need your salvation. Touch them. Open their eyes. Bring them to meet you personally. Help me to be a witness to them. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
