Thirst for the living God !

To him who is thirsty, I will give freely to drink of the spring of the water of life. Revelation 21.6

This summer, the heat is overwhelming. So I placed in my garden a cup filled with water for the birds of the air. Installed in the shade of a hundred-year-old walnut tree, I watch the ballet of tits and sparrows coming to quench their thirst. In front of this rural scene, I think of the water of divine life which fills hearts thirsty for love, justice and truth.

What a salutary cry launches the psalmist : My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. (Psalm 42.3)

To this sincere call, God answers : All of you who are thirsty, come to the water, even those who have no money ! Come, buy and eat, come, buy wine and milk without money, without paying anything! (Isaiah 55.1).

Quenched, the seeking soul is satisfied : Whoever drinks the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again (John 4:14).

If God takes care to give the birds water, how much more will He do for us! Let us ask him to arouse in us the desire to live an intimate relationship with him : "Lord, create in me the thirst for the living God so that I may know the joy of drinking myself at the source of eternal life".
