Thy reign come !

Search the Scriptures

Thy reign come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Matthew 6.10

God reigns ! Nothing happens in his creation apart from his sovereignty. How to understand then that God is the sovereign of the world and that at the same time, Jesus teaches us to pray "Thy reign come" ?

Following the sin of Adam and Eve, the world turned into a curse. This opened the door to the usurper, Satan, and his hordes of demons. While under God's control, and defeated at the Cross, they still enjoy a sphere of action here on earth, because we are told in 2 Peter 3:9 that the Lord : "is patient with us, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance."

This explains why humanity and the whole earth suffer from so many evils. We could say metaphorically that we live in a freezing winter that never ends and that is why we cry "Maranatha !", "Come Lord Jesus !"

The good news is that while waiting for the "new heaven" and the "new earth where justice will dwell" (2 Peter 3.13), we can invite Jesus to reign in the different spheres of our "little world" : our emotions, our will, our thoughts, choices, projects, our family, church, work...

Each time we give him the crown on one of these territories, the "spring of God" can rush there.

Concretely, let's admit that it's not always easy to say "Yes take everything Lord... I no longer live for myself...", "May your will be done and not mine". Sometimes we even take back some crowns that we had placed at his feet. Jesus knew that we would need to pray regularly "Thy reign come !"

Listen the voice of God

Let's take the time to listen to what God wants to say. Is there a territory in your life where Jesus does not yet rule ?

Praying is simple. Speak to God as you would your closest friend. God loves you and he can hear everything. Here is an example of a prayer : “Lord, I ask your forgiveness for all those areas of my life where I cannot let go and trust you. Help me to offer you all “my crowns” so that “ your spring "may inhabit all the territories of my life. Amen."

Praise God

Let's praise God together : "Thank you Lord, for you are truly the best of leaders, the best of guides. I see him, I appreciate him and I admire him in the areas of my life that I have submitted to you."

Act today

Have you identified a particular area where you still hold the reins firmly in your hands ? You can decide today to leave it in the hands of your Lord.

Honor the Lord

Our journey for the day ends. Let us pray together to honor our God.

"Lord, I thank you for you remain sovereign despite the circumstances of this world. Yours is the reign, the power and the glory, amen !"
