"Thy word is the truth"

"Sanctify them by the truth ; Your Word is the truth." John 17:17

Truth is nowhere else than in God. He alone, the Creator, knows all things since he is at the origin of all ; It alone remains the same ; He alone can judge of everything in relation to an absolute and perfect reference. He is, as we always remember, the Sovereign of whom everything proceeds and to whom everything goes back, the one whom one can not know if he does not reveal himself.

By his disobedience, man has acquired the knowledge of good and evil, he has chosen the way of falsehood. He is a limited creature and imbued with sin. How could he have access to divine truth, that is to say, in fact, know the divine will concerning him, he and his environment ?

He departs more and more from it; The corruption of manners, sanctioned by the deluge, will be followed by idolatry and pride (the tower of Babel) of the descendants of Noah. But God is full of patience with man, and he reveals himself to Abraham from whom he will draw a people : Israel.

It is to this people that God will give to his word, by means of Moses, a written form, completed during the following centuries until forming this unique book between books: the Bible.

Putting ourselves in this form, the Word of God, read and received with the help of the Holy Spirit, brings us into the thoughts of God. This understanding of truth, limited and progressive, "sanctifies" us: it leads us to abandon what is not in conformity with the will of God and to develop the new life.

Blessed be God! The Bible is not a collection of laws that God intends to see respected by His subjects. It is the means of communication through which it reveals itself in its multiple aspects. True, it contains laws, rules, with sanctions provided for, but it is also the word that heals. It contains promises for the present and eternity. It also presents narratives, examples, testimonies that put the truth of God within the reach of our limited understanding. Above all, she speaks of him in whom and by whom God spoke : Jesus Christ.

Through her, God invites us to execute His will as a perfectly holy Sovereign, but also to know Him as our Father and to love Him as children who appreciate His love.
