To a hitchhiker

A 40-year-old gentleman was hitchhiking while Frank Poulin and I were coming back from the restaurant with an emci tv guest. For the 5 years that I live in Quebec, I've only seen people hitchhiking a few times, especially not in winter like today. I knew we had little time to talk to him about Jesus and that we had to get right to the point. He was carrying a very big garbage bag filled with dirty cans. Apparently, he was collecting money for young people in the home. I started the discussion first, saying : "You have a big heart then," to which he actually responded, he gave everything he received. I told him that we too were doing the same thing : we had received something for free, and we offered it. I also told him that we had received life in Jesus and we shared it around us. So he told us that he had an accident and that he had seen "the light". Then he developed a mystical belief and tried to explain his faith, comparing the bark of trees and trees and all kinds of weird things...

I told him that it was good to have seen the light, but that it was written in the Bible that light came into the world, but the world did not receive it. "And this judgment is that, when light came into the world, men preferred darkness to light, because their deeds were evil" (John 3:19).

He lowered his head a little embarrassed. Our guest asked him if he knew of any church in the area and gave him the address and meeting times orally. The gentleman said he was going there. When he got out of the car he said he had sore ribs, so I quickly got out of the car and prayed for him. I think when I saw a police car he started to be in a hurry so I prayed quickly. He was looking at me as I prayed. He was still in pain, and I dared not pray a second time for him, given the circumstances. I surely should have. When I hitchhiked myself, I often talked about Jesus to those who drove me.
