To conquer anguish (1)
"Do not worry about anything !" Philippians 4. 6
Anguish is like a drop that falls into our mind before gradually digging its bed until one day all our thoughts begin to sink in this destructive current. Most of our anxieties can be classified into three categories :
1- Anguish in the face of the inevitable such as age, infirmity, retirement, loneliness, financial insecurity, accidents, illness, loss of a loved one and death.
2- Anguish about the imperatives of life such as making decisions, starting or ending a relationship, losing weight, changing professions, making mistakes.
3- The anguish that reveals our state of mind, revealing our feelings about our ability to solve problems. For example, the fear of rejection can influence every relationship in your life. For fear of suffering, you begin to avoid meeting others, your world shrinks, and the opportunities for you to flourish slowly fade away. Many of our anguishs can be summed up in a doubt embedded in us, which translates into the eternal question : "What if I can't do it ?" Your mind is the battleground where victory or defeat is decided. Ask yourself, therefore, "Would I still be so distressed if I were sure I could handle any eventuality ?" The answer is of course no. When we are sure that we can fix any problem, whatever it is, anxiety stops paralyzing us and robbing us of our joy. I can hear you screaming from here, “But that's a little too easy !” Not when you include God in the equation! Here are two verses that will do wonders in eliminating your anxieties, and on which you can rely as soon as you are in a bad spot :
1- “I can do everything through him who strengthens me, Christ” (Philippians 4:13).
2- Do not worry about anything, but in everything, make your needs known to God through prayers and supplications, in an attitude of gratitude. And the peace of God, which surpasses all that can be understood, will guard your heart and your mind in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4, 6-7).
