"The fruit of the Spirit is ... patience" Galatians 5:22
The word "patience", in Hebrew, is composed of the word "long" and the word "nose". To be patient is to have the nose long, that is to say to have the long breath. The image is interesting, and reflects a great deal of truth, indeed have we not observed that impatients tend to emit a characteristic "pffff" ? Their breath is "short" !
Patience, ..., gives us the ability to face the trials, and the opponents, with serenity.
The fruit of the Spirit is patience. The only one who can give us this measure of supernatural patience is the one who is infinitely patient. But he who is patient by nature is God. The apostle Peter reminds us : "... when the patience of God was prolonged in the days of Noah." 1 Peter 3:20. This patience is translated by the expression "slow to anger", applied to God, and which we find many times in the Bible.
This patience of God is a source of salvation for many : "The Lord is not long ... but he is patient with you, not willing that any should perish ..." 2 Peter 3.9 He who is patient wants to tell us his Patience by the Holy Spirit.
Patience is one of the characteristics of the men of God filled with the Spirit of God : "Now Moses was a very patient man more than any man on the face of the earth." Numbers 12: 3. However, it was enough for a moment for the irritation to take over. Do not throw the stone at him! How much we resemble him ! Without the help of the Spirit our "breath quickly becomes short".
Long before the signs, prodigies and miracles, the apostle Paul sees in it the primary proof of his apostolate : "The proofs of my apostolate have broken out among you by patience, by signs, wonders, and signs. Of the miracles "2 Corinthians 12.12.
During one of my travels abroad, when I arrived in the middle of a debate between two men speaking a language that was unknown to me, I said to the person who was near me : "He who Is right, it is so. " This gentleman asked me if I understood their language. I replied, "No, but I know who is right." How is this possible, he asked me ? To which I replied : "Because I see who is angry and loses patience, he can not be right !"
Patience, the fruit of the Spirit, gives us the ability to confront trials, and opponents, with serenity. One who is patient ends up forcing respect, one who loses patience loses credibility. I checked it out at my own expense.
Advice for today
Do you lose patience quickly ? Are you "soup-au-lait" ? Ask God to give you this particular grace, this wonderful fruit of the Spirit : patience.
