To isolate with God

"But you, when you pray, enter your room, and, having closed the door, pray to your Father who dwells in secret ; And your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you. "Matthew 6: 6

The man of the 21st century can easily be dragged along by various activities that risk capturing both his faculties and his time. Of course, there are some that are compulsory as the exercise of a profession, the education of children, the management of the home ... But is not man added obligations ? In the same way, in our day, distractions multiply ; There are some that are perhaps innocuous, but they risk to monopolize the heart and draw it ... That time lost between obligations that one creates and distractions that do not enrich ! Do not doubt it, the great enemy of our souls is behind this : watch out for this frenzy of action !

Of course, we can pray to God every moment of the day, while doing business. He is everywhere ; But let us know how to halt where we will "isolate ourselves with God," where we will be in conversation with him, in silence, listening, closed to external things, applying the verse of the day to the letter.

Formerly, what did Elisha, called for help by a rich Sunamite who regularly lodged him and whose son had just died ? "He entered and shut the door on them (he and the child) and begged the Lord" (2 Kings 4:33). Elisha is isolated with God !

In the terrible night when men were about to lay their hands on him, in the Mount of Olives, what did Jesus himself do ? "He said to his disciples," Sit here until I have gone to pray there "(Matt 26:36). What a distance between the "here" of the disciples and the "out there" of the Lord, where he isolates himself in order to devote himself entirely to the will of his Father !

My God, give me to feel this need to isolate myself to be "in direct contact with you". Help me to keep everyday moments of solitude where nobody disturbs me, where my motive is extinguished, so that I can talk with you and that I can hear you talk to me ... moments of communion that will be especially blessed. Amen.
