Tottering, but not disqualified !

"For we have no high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses..." Hebrews 4:15

The word “weaknesses” is in the plural, because we have many of them, even if most often we admit to suffering from one or two at most! As TD Jakes so aptly put it : “We carefully hide our defeats and our difficulties, to flaunt only our victories. The downside is that the world quickly gets tired of our triumphant parades and vain displays. For the love of God and for the love of a world that is dying far from Him, let us be more honest and behave with frankness, in our relations with each other and with others.” Weaknesses, illnesses, infirmities, shortcomings, addictions... we all suffer from one or the other, to the point of needing a new measure of His grace every day to move forward. David always did very well on the battlefield, but rather poorly in his home, despite his intimacy with God ! This should actually encourage us, because not only is God merciful to us, but He also uses people such as we all are, plagued by the same temptations and problems as David. Paul affirms : “We also are men of the same nature as you” (Acts 14:15). Only a madman would refuse to bend down to pick up a diamond that fell into the gutter. Unfortunately, unlike God, we have too often thrown so many diamonds down the drain, so many soldiers of Christ wounded in battle, who we should have given a chance to recover. If Jesus, our high priest has so much compassion for us and our weaknesses, shouldn't we have the same compassion for others ?
