Trust the Word of God

“Rather, happy are those who hear the word of God and keep it !” Luke 11. 28

Jesus trusted the Word of God in its entirety. Who do we think we are when we dissect the Bible, accepting one book and rejecting another ? The Lord made it clear : “Truly I say to you, until heaven and earth have passed away, by one letter and one stroke of a letter will not be removed from the Law until all has happened” (Matthew 5:18). Some believers regard Old Testament accounts as unreliable, and only count the New Testament books, relegating all books written before Christ's coming to the library of the past, useful only as examples to study. Yet Jesus accepted accounts like Jonah's as true, and He quoted verses from 24 books of the Old Testament. He also said : “Scripture cannot be canceled” (John 10:35). If Jesus was so categorical on this subject, does this leave us the choice to doubt the veracity of a single line of the Bible ? Often Jesus laid down as the foundation of His teaching a sentence or even a word taken from the Bible. He accepted the scriptures as being trustworthy in every detail. But more than that He saw them as capable of changing lives. Listening to His word is not enough, it is necessary to put it into practice, to obey it. Most of the time, the skeptics point the finger at biblical accounts that Jesus accepted as quite true, for example Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden, Noah and the flood, the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah or the episode of Jonah and the great fish. If Jesus believed that this adventure really happened, we must believe it too. If Jesus trusted the Bible, so must we !
