"Eternal ! Your word is established forever in heaven ... According to your ordinances, these things remain firm today ; for all things serve you ... I will never forget your precepts, because by them you have made me live." Psalm 119. 89, 91, 93
The present period is characterized by the rejection of all definitive or universal truth : everything is peculiar, everything is singular. "As for me personally, I think that's my opinion ..." It is the primacy of subjectivity, of feeling, of context. Everyone has their representation of things, their culture, their tradition, their path ; and no one can claim to be right. The question that prevails today is not, "Is it true? But : "Is that good ?". In other words : If it feels good, it's good, even if it's wrong ! Many say that of faith and the gospel. They do not say : "It's the truth." They say : "It helps." But a glass of wine helps too ... And many people believe lies because it helps them! This is the problem of seduction. I am also thinking of comedians ; if they make you laugh, it's good - too bad if it's not fair ...
In fact, in all these areas - material, moral or spiritual - there is a reality that should not be invented, but discovered, respected, accepted.
For many, the spiritual domain would be purely subjective, without any possible rigor. But what does Paul say about the resurrection ? "I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I have spoken to you, which you have also received, in which also you are established, by which also you are saved, if you keep the word which I have spoken to you, unless you believe in vain" (1 Corinthians 15: 1, 2). And John adds : "What we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have contemplated and what our hands have touched ... we announce it to you" (1 John 1, 3). Thus, it is not believing who saves, it is believing what is right and true. Sincerity is not enough. If I believe with all my heart something wrong, is it faith ? Better to believe a little something true! Accept the testimonies reported in the Word of God. It's solid for life and death !
