- The rich young man (Mark 10:17-22) :
Although the young man boasts of respecting many of the commandments, Jesus will highlight a serious spiritual problem in this one, it is about idolatry. This young man, under the appearance of good morals, proved to be a terrible transgressor of the first commandment.
This story highlights two things :
. The young man's own justice,
. His terrible ingratitude to God.
The scribe who calls Jesus to the law (Mark 12:28-34) :
This discussion between the two men revolves around the greatest commandments. Jesus response to the question of the religious leader once again provides clear evidence that Jesus did not come to abolish the law but to fulfill it.
Let us remember this word of the Lord who said :
"Indeed, truly I say to you, until heaven and earth are gone, not a single letter or letter will disappear from the law until everything has happened. Whoever therefore will break one of these least commandments and teach men to do the same will be called the least in the kingdom of heaven ; but he who will put them into practice and teach them to others, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 5:18-19).
