We are not immune to a fall !

“You will all stumble tonight because of me.” Matthew 26. 31

You who are a spiritually mature Christian, do you think you are safe from a fall, from a denial of your Lord ? Think about how much time the disciples had spent in intimacy with Jesus, for about three and a half years. They had listened to Him speaking to the crowds, had received His teaching on His parables, had seen many miracles. Yet all of them abandoned Him at the decisive hour, as Jesus predicted. How can you believe that you will be an exception ? Hear your Lord whisper to you, "You will all stumble tonight." Peter, as usual, reacts with daring and carelessness : “Even if everyone stumbles because of you, it will never be my case” (v 33). And not to be outdone, “all the disciples said the same thing” The good news is that Jesus knows our shortcomings even before we find them out, and He is ready to reach out to us to pick us up. To Peter, He says : “I have prayed for you, that your faith does not disappear ; and you, when you return to me, strengthen your brethren” (Luke 22:32). And beyond Peter, He is also addressing us (John 17:20). Satan would have you believe that if you fall, your failure will lead you away from the love of God, which is a lie. Instead of being discouraged, get up and draw closer to Him. He knows that we are all sinners and may sin cling to our “basques.” The worst would be to stay on the ground : “the righteous fall seven times, but he arises” (Proverbs 24-16). Paul af firm : “we are thrown to the ground, but not annihilated...” (2 Corinthians 4: 9). His word to you today is : You will stumble, you will fall, you will bite the dust one day or another, but divine grace will help you get up !
