"The Spirit Himself bears witness to our spirit that we are children of God" (Romans 8:16).
"And the Holy Spirit also bears witness to us" (Hebrews 10:15 Darby version).
You may ask, "What is the Spirit testifying to ?" The following verse tells us, "This is the covenant that I will make for them after these days," says the Lord, Putting my laws in their hearts, I will also write them on their understandings" (10:16). To put it simply, the Holy Spirit witnesses a spill of mercy on this generation of the last times.
"It is the Spirit that bears witness, because the Spirit is the truth ... He who believes in the Son of God has this testimony in himself; He who does not believe God makes him a liar, since he does not believe in the testimony that God has given to his Son" (1 John 5: 6,10). The Holy Spirit testifies to all of the works that God is doing in order to prepare us for what He will do. At this moment, His Church is touched again, showing us that a sovereign action of the Holy Spirit must come. From these profound darkness, the Spirit will elevate Christ and attract multitudes to Him.
We experience a time of darkness also in the Church. Denominations accept homosexual marriages and an entire generation turns away from God. But in this dark hour, the Holy Spirit awakens those who seek Him. If you walk in the Spirit, you have heard the same testimony from Him: the hour of darkness for men is also the hour of the pouring out of the Holy Spirit. This has always been the case, and it will still be the case today.
In this hour of bad news, the Spirit testifies good news : "He kept the best wine for the end !"
