We only need Him

We know well the story of the father who came with anguish to find Jesus for the healing of his dying daughter. Then came one of the leaders of the synagogue, named Jairus, who, seeing him, threw himself at his feet and prayed to him : "My little girl is at the end, So that she may be saved and live. Jesus went with him. And a great crowd followed him and pressed him" (Mark 5: 22-24).

Apparently, Jairus had a good measure of faith. He pressed Jesus : "Come, lay his hands on her, and she will be healed." What proof of Jairus' deep faith : "All that my daughter needs is a touch of Jesus. He has all power. He can save her from death."

The attitude of Jairus represents the majority of Christians today. When we are in deep crisis, we know that Jesus is our hope. And we run to Him, in our need, falling at His feet and seeking His mercy and His help.

Jesus answered the faith of Jairus by going with him. Can you imagine the hope that must have filled the heart of this father ? Yet at the same time, I believe that a terrible thought must have struck Jairus : "What if we arrive too late ? It's wonderful to have Jesus by my side, but we need time. At every step we make towards my home, life escapes a little more from my daughter."

In our own moments of trial, the majority of us say the same thing as Jairus : "I need you, Jesus. But the time is short. "If Jairus knew who Jesus was - the resurrection and life - he would have remained in peace. He could have reassured his troubled mind : "Jesus exists outside of time. We do not need more time. We only need Him !"
