What are you called to ?

We are not called above all to be saints, but to proclaim the Good News, the Gospel of God. What matters above all is that we realize that the gospel is the supreme and permanent reality. Neither the virtue of men, nor holiness, nor heaven, nor hell, are the fundamental reality, which is none other than redemption. The Christian who wants to work for God needs more than ever to be penetrated by this truth. Nothing is real except redemption, it is God himself who reveals it to us, we must get used to this thought. Individual holiness is an effect, not a cause. If we put our trust in this human quality, which is the effect in us of the Redemption, we would be shipwrecked.

Paul does not say that he set himself apart, he says : "When He who set me aside judged him well ..." Paul was not intensely preoccupied with his own holiness. As long as our eyes are fixed on our personal purity, we will never grasp the reality of Redemption. Christians fall on the road, because their purity occupies them - not God. The hard and rough reality of the Redemption in relation to the quagmire of human life, it does not tell them anything. Above all, they want God to make them more worthy of their own self-esteem. As long as I have not surrendered to God without reservation, God can not save me.
