What do you have in your hand ?

"Everyone has his own gift of grace from God, one in one way, and another in another." 1 Corinthians 7. 7

When God asks Moses this question (Ex 4: 2), he answers : "a staff", his shepherd's staff, to guide and protect his flock. God sent him to lead an immense people, his people.

If God had asked Dorcas the same question, she would have answered, "In my hand I have a needle" (Acts 9:39). Dorcas knew how to sew. His life was useful, turned towards others. Thanks to his work, his friends and neighbors praised God.

What do you have in your hand ? A pen to write, a guitar to sing to the glory of God ? A pot for cooking for those who are hungry ? A trowel to build a shelter or build a bridge ? Is it so difficult to discover his own gift, his service ? Certainly not ! God gave "to each one his work" (Mark 13:34), "to each according to his own capacity" (Matt 25:15). It is within reach of my hand. If I do not yet know what God has given me to do, I can ask him. What is difficult is not to know the will of God, it is to give up my will to obey his. God wants me to discover my talents, that I use them. Not for me, but for others : "As long as you did it to one of those little ones who are my brothers, you made it to me" (Matt 25:40).

We too, men or women, have multiple gifts. Let us use them in our family, our street, our city. "As each of you has received some gift of grace, use it for one another, as a good dispenser of the varied grace of God" (1 Pet. 4: 10). We will contribute to the strength of our family and its stability, if we rest on the Lord, the foundation stone. In a wider environment, let us do "the work of an evangelist" (2 Tim 4: 5). Let's open the door of our house to welcome and listen, even if we only have one glass of water to offer. Let's visit the elderly, the sick ... In our church, our joy, our sweetness, our wisdom will be like a reflection of the sky.

And do not forget a vial of oil, to soften the wounds and repair what squeaks.
