What do you know about God ?

"I seek thy face, O LORD !" Psalms 27.8

At the end of a theatrical performance, as a reminder, the main actor impressed the spectators by reciting Psalm 23, and the whole audience rose to give him an ovation.

You only pursue what you love deeply.

The actor then asked a few words to an old pastor present in the audience. The latter, to the general surprise, recited the same psalm. However, in the end, the room was immersed in silence and many had moist eyes. It was then that the actor, standing beside the old pastor, said : "Ladies and gentlemen, the difference between him and me is that I know this psalm by heart, but he knows the shepherd."

Alexander Maclaren, a great Scottish preacher, explained that all he knew depended on the daily hour he spent with God. During this hour, one could enter his office, but kept silent. Maclaren was sitting in his old armchair with his Bible on his knees. Sometimes he would read a few pages, but most of the time he had his head in his hands. During this hour, he never read the Bible to prepare a preaching. One of his assistants had even noticed that he was reading it like a child can read a letter from his father or as someone delights in the writings of a loved one.

What do you know about God ? Do you really want to know him ? The answer is not in what you say, but in what you do. You only pursue what you love deeply.

Action for Today

The psalmist said : "My heart says from thee: Seek my face, I seek thy face, O LORD."
