What do you think of our world ?

Monday July 26, 2021

(Jesus said) : Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. Matthew 24.35

By the word of God, the present heaven and earth are kept for fire, reserved for the day of judgment and the perdition of ungodly men. 2 Peter 3.7

What do you think of our world ?

Can we think that the earth will never know an end, that civilizations will continue to succeed one another as in the past millennia ? Or is our world doomed to disappear one day ? There is no shortage of pessimistic responses from forecasters.

The Bible gives the real answer in today's verses. It puts us directly in a situation when it evokes the time of the flood (Genesis chapters 6 to 8). The flood was announced throughout the construction of the ark by Noah (over 100 years). Yet the announcement of the cataclysm was not heard, until the day when the water submerged the earth. Only those who believed, refugees in the ark, were saved (1 Peter 3:20). Noah was saved, he and his family, by faith in God (Hebrews 11.7).

In the future, this world will be judged and destroyed by fire (today's verse), before the establishment of new heavens and a new earth (Revelation 21).

But the means to be saved is also given to us : "There is no salvation in any other (Jesus), for there is no other name under heaven given among men, by which we should be saved" (Acts 4:12). Our "ark", our plank of salvation, is faith in Jesus Christ. We have all offended God, so we all need to be reconciled to him, who is righteous and holy. To all who believe in Jesus, who died on the cross and rose again, God forgives and gives them eternal life. This life received on earth will allow us to enter with him into the new heavens.
