What future ?

“I am Alpha and Omega, says the Lord God, who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.” Revelation 1. 8 Segond Version 21

Jonathan Edwards explains : “Everyone is interested in the future, and the book of Revelation is designed to help us prepare for it. If you are looking for a map, or a calendar of events, you will unfortunately be disappointed. But what this book gives us is a vision of “God,” who is so powerful that no matter how great and fierce the opposition, He will be victorious. The book of Revelation is not intended to frighten or intrigue us but to give us confidence in our God who has all of history in His hands. Using the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet, God is described as Alpha and Omega. He was there before the dawn of creation, and He will have the last word. He is also described as the Almighty, a description that is used nine times in this book, and only once in the rest of the New Testament. Writing at a time when the Church was under desperate persecution, John wanted to make it clear that all power and might was in the hands of God. His readers could confidently entrust their lives into His hands. Our society today is racked by fear as it looks to the future. This world is a precarious place, so it is all the more important that we put our faith and trust in a God who has all of history in His hands. Be encouraged today in your hopes for the future.” “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth” (Revelation 21. 1). Randy Acorn wrote : “After Christopher Columbus discovered the New World, Spain minted coins with the Latin slogan “Plus Ultra.” It meant “More Beyond”. It was a message that broadened the horizons of people who had always believed that the world they knew was all there was.” As for us, we will have all the future to enjoy the wonders of the new earth, and what's more, God promises us new heavens, including stars, planets and cosmic wonders that will delight us ! You can face the future with confidence thanks to our God who is the ALMIGHTY.
