What he search for (2) - The glory of God

In the Garden of Eden Satan persuaded Adam and Eve that they would be "like God" if they ate of the forbidden fruit. This thought of rising to God seemed to them enviable, and they followed the advice of the Tempter. They thus disobeyed God, denying his authority as Creator over them.

This desire to rise up has been transmitted to all of mankind. Humility is not natural to us ; pride, it must be admitted, dwells in everyone's heart, to varying degrees.

When Jesus came to earth, he said : "I am not search for my glory". While he was God the Son, and in stark contrast to Adam, he annihilated himself to become a man. Then, being a man, he humbled himself even further until he died on the cross (Philippians 2: 5-11). Jesus therefore followed the opposite path from that of our first parents. The desire to rise up, which led to Adam's disobedience, was foreign to Jesus. On the contrary, in his whole life we ​​discover a true and constant humility. He was "humble of heart", not falsely humble as we sometimes are (Matthew 11:29). He did not seek the approval or the admiration of men, he was doing the will of God. The center of his thoughts was God his Father, everywhere, always, and in everything.

In him alone, God has found his pleasure (Matthew 17. 5). This is why God raised him from the dead and "exalted him very high", he "crowned him with glory and honor" (Philippians 2. 9 ; Hebrews 2. 9).
